Maybe Katy Perry was on to something when she wore braces for her nerd look in her T.G.I.F. video!
Even though many kids in North America dread the day when their dentists tell them they need braces, it’s actually quite the opposite in some Asian countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
In fact, fake braces have become such a high-demand fashion trend that Asian teens are turning to the black market to get metal and rubber accessories in all different colors and designs for about $100 bucks each.
It’s a far cry from the typical price braces would cost in Bangkok – somewhere around $1,200.
The unusual oral fixation on the mouthy fashion trend has gotten so popular that even Indonesian star Andika Kangen has been seen sporting pink and green dental gear.
See? “Brace Face” is actually going to become a term of endearment!
