Fuller House Creator Defends Making Fun Of Mary-Kate & Ashley Absence -- And Explains The 'Bad Idea' Of Using Elizabeth Olsen Instead!

How rude.
While most of America is pumped for the Fuller House premiere, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t bummed about Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen skipping out on the reboot.
We’ve heard all about the twins’ on-again-off-again feud with John Stamos, but now another person involved with the Netflix sitcom is speaking out about their absence.

Creator and producer Jeff Franklin spoke to E! News on Monday about the Elizabeth Olsen casting rumors, saying:

“Personally, I was very disappointed that Mary-Kate or Ashley didn’t want to come and join us. I understand why and no hard feelings, but I really was hoping to get that picture. And in our moment of disappointment, John Stamos and I talked about what to do and we thought for a moment, what if? We’ve known Elizabeth since she was a little girl.
[Casting Elizabeth] was not an offer, it was just an inquiry floating out whether there was even a point to this idea. I didn’t know if it was a good idea or a bad idea. And I thought it through, and it was in my head, so I thought I would just see if it was even worth thinking about. It was not really a good idea. It wasn’t.”

We actually think that would have been an amazing casting move, but we get that they didn’t want to burn any bridges.
Plus, Elizabeth is a bit too busy on the big screen to make a sitcom right now. LOLz!

Jeff went on to address the manner in which the show will touch upon MK&A not being there due to their fashion line, saying:

“It wasn’t meant to be a dig, it was meant to be a playful wink.”

We’re just hopeful that Michelle will make her return sometime in Season Two!
Although… nothing will convince us she’s not actually in the first season until it premieres February 26 on Netflix!
