The Jackie Robinson movie 42 is getting some decent buzz and reviews, but we have a feeling it’s because those people reviewing the movie weren’t Jackie’s former teammates and also have no idea how things actually went down! LOLz!
According to 88-year-old George ‘Shotgun’ Shuba, the story the movie tells behind the iconic photo of Jackie shaking hands with him isn’t quite right. In fact, they just decided to rewrite history altogether and CUT him from the scene!!
Here’s what George says:
“I just wish they would have portrayed it correctly — April 18, 1946 — when I shook hands with Jackie as he crossed home plate in his first home run ever.”
The scene in the movie instead shows Jackie shaking hands with TWO white men at home plate instead. George is not one of them.
Honestly, it seems like a super easy thing to get right with NO excuse as to why they’d change it!
Here’s what George’s son said, too:
“The producers should have done their research. Jackie was scared none of his teammates would shake his hands in public. That was a very historic moment that they eliminated.”
George and his son simply want to set the record straight for younger generations, who may not know the real story, and are worried that the movie will teach them incorrectly. They don’t even want an apology!
It’s bizarre to us that those involved with the movie wouldn’t even look into what the ICONIC PHOTO (above, from a different angle) really meant!
