Jessica Simpson Settles The Vanessa Lachey Baby Gift Drama For Good!

The great gift debate has come to an end!

Those who have been lapping up all the salacious goodness from Jessica Simpson‘s recently released Open Book will recall some confusion erupted earlier this week — and it wasn’t even over any of the relationship details from the memoir!

No, the issue came when Hoda Kotb claimed to Nick and Vanessa Lachey Jess said they had sent a baby gift prior to the birth of her daughter Maxwell Johnson.

The second Mrs. Lachey was extremely taken aback by the claims (so much so she tweeted a few times about it following the interview), and shared with the morning host on Monday:

“I feel bad. I’m sorry, but you said somebody sent her … It wasn’t us. I don’t know her address. But thank you, whoever sent it from us!”

We couldn’t help but notice — as did quite a few fans — how unshakably certain Vanessa was she had never bought that woman a gift in her life! LOLz!

So awkward!!

But thankfully Jess cleared it all up! While chatting with Andy Cohen for an episode of Radio Andy on Friday, she said:

“Um, well, I don’t really know that I got a gift per se.”

The Public Affair songstress continued:

“My gift with Nick is that he is happy and he is married. He has three beautiful children, he’s a father and he’s celebrated for that… That’s really a gift to me because I thought that I just crushed his heart. Because I don’t think he believed that I could actually grow up… We were great together when we performed, we were great together on camera. We lived that.”

But when asked once again if there was a gift or not, Jess made it clear:

“I did not get a gift. I don’t know where that came from.”

As you’ll recall, the pair were married from 2002 to 2006, and chronicled their life as a couple on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica for MTV. Ironically, Jess’ seven-year-old daughter Maxwell who was semi-thrown into the gift-gate is aware of her mom’s past with the 98 Degrees singer, thanks in part to the show:

“She now knows what divorce is. She knows that Nick, you know, she’s watched some of our stuff. She’s like, ‘Mom, you’re so silly. … Dad is so much cuter.'”

Ouch!!

The momma of three spilled plenty of tea about her ex-husband in the book, including losing her virginity to him after they tied the knot AND his penchant for disappearing with the guys to strip clubs.

We’re SO here for all the juiciness, even if the gift debate is over!!
