No, someone didn’t learn a spell from a Harry Potter book that can preserve ancient forests.
(Though we wish they did.)
The Harry Potter series of books totals 4,195 pages and million and million of copies of the book were sold, JK Rowling knew that that could seriously impact the environment.
In Canada, ancient forests with 800-year-old trees were being cut down to supply paper for books.
So she pushed the supply chain to protect ancient forests from loggers, and so over 700 of the largest paper purchasers in the world vowed to protect ancient forests and certify where they got their wood pulp.
JK Rowling said:
“The forest at Hogwarts is home to magical creatures like unicorns and centaurs. Because the Canadian editions are printed on Ancient Forest Friendly paper, the Harry Potter books are helping to save magnificent forests in the Muggle world, home of magical animals such as orangutans, wolves and bears.
It is a good idea to respect ancient trees, especially if they have a temper like the Whomping Willow.”
Always nice to see someone in a place of power really doing something to help the environment.
