Four-Time MLB All-Star Arrested For Domestic Abuse After Allegedly Throwing His Wife Into A Glass Door

This is so scary.
Jose Reyes, a shortstop for the Colorado Rockies, was busted for domestic abuse in Maui, Hawaii, according to news reports.
Police say they arrested the MLB star on Halloween after he assaulted his wife, Katherine Ramirez, while the couple were on vacation on the island of Maui.

Apparently, Reyes grabbed his wife by the throat during an argument and threw her into a sliding glass balcony door in the couple’s hotel room at the Four Seasons Hotel. Ramirez was taken to the hospital as a result of her injuries.
Only now has the arrest been made public, after a local news report on Maui surfaced late Monday night.
Reyes was a newcomer to the Rockies, having been traded to Denver in June, but he’s a long-time veteran of professional baseball and a very successful player; he’s a four-time All Star who also won the National League’s Batting Title in 2011.

The Colorado Rockies reacted swiftly on Twitter to the news (below):

Assuming he’s still with the team come the start of the season, Reyes is due to make a whopping $22 million with the Rockies in 2016.

Just awful.
Major League Baseball also reacted to news of Reyes’ arrest, indicating their investigation and use of a new policy on domestic violence (below):

The investigation will take time, but baseball — which wants to distance itself from the domestic violence problems of their counterparts in the NFL — may do something significant to make an example of Reyes, should he be found responsible for the alleged incident.

Whether that means the Rockies release him, or the league somehow voids part or all of the remainder of his massive contract — Reyes is due nearly $60 million over the next several years — that all remains to be seen.
Either way, it’s a horrible situation for Reyes’ wife and an unfortunate piece of news for everybody involved.
