UPDATE! 7:04 P.M. PST: Turns out, Justin was “just playing” when he said he wanted to challenge Tom Cruise to a fight!
As seen in a paparazzi video shot on Wednesday, JB — who was leaving wife Hailey Bieber‘s offices in Los Angeles — explained:
“I don’t know him… He’s tight. The story is I saw an interview with him, and he was just on my mind. It was just a random tweet. I do that stuff sometimes.”
The singer added:
“Tom, he’d probably whoop my ass in a fight.”
However, when asked if he would actually fight the actor if he accepted the challenge, the musician said he would “have to get into shape” first, explaining:
“I’m really skinny right now… I think he’d probably be out of my weight class… He’s got that dad strength… He’s a dad right?”
For the record, Tom shares 13-year-old daughter Suri with ex-wife Katie Holmes, and 24-year-old son Connor & 26-year-old daughter Isabella with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

Here’s a head scratcher: for seemingly no reason on Sunday night, Justin Bieber decided to hop on Twitter and publicly challenge 56-year-old Tom Cruise to a UFC-style MMA fight in the Octagon! Wait, what?!
The 25-year-old Canadian pop star — who is, yes, 31 years younger than Cruise — also openly called out the Top Gun legend as being “scared” if he refused to accept the fight.

Bieber even tried to enlist the help of UFC head honcho Dana White in setting up the bout, tagging the promoter/exec in the same tweet while trying to make the fight happen.

Now, sources tell The Blast that Justin was “just having a little fun” on social media, and doesn’t actually want to fight Cruise, which makes sense. And honestly, the tweet is funny… and weird, and random, and there are some grammatical issues, too… but seriously, where did this come from?!

Predictably, Twitter went CRAZY after seeing the Biebs’ open challenge, with celebs and regular folks all weighing in on the Baby singer’s chances against a legitimate action movie hero three decades his senior (who, by the way, still does his own stunts).
Some users called out Justin for what some of the consequences might be if he were to lose to Cruise (below):

Whatever the motivation, Justin sure gave the social media world a good Monday morning laugh with that challenge, which quickly trended across Twitter and created a flurry of morning activity on the site.
