At the Blue School in New York City, the original founders were also the original members of the Blue Man Group.
Like the musical act, the school is turning heads for its creative innovation and alternative mindset due to the unique way they are teaching elementary school children.
We remember in kindergarten making green colored bagels for St. Patricks Day and thinking it was the most amazing thing ever!
These New York City private school children, whose parents pay $31,900 per year for the education, are drawing self portraits of their brains and connecting how emotions like sadness effect how a person’s day goes.
Wait, what?
We didn’t even know emotions affect your day, and you’re telling us little kids are learning that!
That’s…amazing?
Apparently some parents don’t think so.
Although the school is highly regarded and has a long waiting list, many parents have said they’d prefer a more traditional approach to learning.
They’re worried that the school isn’t preparing them for standard tests that are required to make it into good high schools and especially colleges.
Here’s what one neuropsychiatrist said:
“[My clients found it a] little too artsy and alternative. I find more and more, for their tuition dollars, families want tradition, structure and the three R├óΓé¼Γäós, reflection, relationships and resilience.”
We think unlimited creativity for a kid is fantastic, but we suppose a little bit of discipline never hurt anybody, too.
What do U think??
