Did You See The Video Of The Guy Punching A Kangaroo To Save His Dog? Now Get The Full Story!

no title
By now, you’ve probably seen the viral video of a man punching a kangaroo in an attempt to rescue his dog — but what actually went down to lead to the human-marsupial boxing match?
The video, which has garnered over 4.1M views, was first posted to Facebook on Saturday by Steven Stubenrauch, who said the footage was sent to him from a friend from Down Under.
And while the blow to the kangaroo’s face is pretty intense, the story behind the brawl is even more dramatic!

The man in the video — identified by Australian press as Greig Tonkins — was part of a hunting trip in June for a now-deceased friend Kailem, who was suffering from cancer and wanted to go on a boar-hunting trip with his buddies.
After hearing about Kailem’s condition, friend Mathew Amor organized the group hunting trip at his New South Wales property — which eventually led to a run-in with the “roo.”
Amor said it was out of character for Tonkins — who is a zookeeper at Taronga’s Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo — to strike the animal, explaining:

“My mate has a good government job, so he’s gone pretty quiet on this├óΓé¼┬ª We were driving along, the dogs are loose. They are trained to smell pig’s blood, and picked up a scent. The dogs went past 20 kangaroos, which they are trained not to touch.”

After a particularly “big buck” got a hold of one of the friends dogs, Tonkins snapped into action and “stood his ground” before sucker-punching the roo right in the snout.

Amor recounted:

“My mate only stunned it├óΓé¼┬ª His hand was OK, he didn’t hit it very hard at all. It was funny because the guy who did it is the most placid bloke. We laughed at him for chucking such a sh*t punch.”

We guess that’s just how they roll in the Outback!!
