Well it definitely doesn’t look like loyalty is one of Matt Lauer‘s strengths!
Since the shocking firing of the much beloved Ann Curry, the Today show has been a bit of a mess and Matt has been at the center of all of the drama!
With the show struggling with ratings, there were rumors swirling that NBC’s longtime anchor might also be getting the axe. Apparently he heard the gossip, because now we’re hearing that he was thisclose to joining ABC!
A source close to the situation says Matt panicked when he heard the rumor that Ryan Seacrest might be joining the program, saying:
“Lauer learned of the leak [about Seacrest] while being forced to stand outside the security gate at the White House Christmas party because Ann Curry had forgotten her driver├óΓé¼Γäós license.”
Matt obviously wasn’t too optimistic about his job security, because he immediately went and met with NBC’s rival network!
Chief of Disney Bob Iger was apparently drooling at the prospect of reuniting the anchorman with his old pal Katie Couric in a daytime talk show, but he instead used the pending deal as an opportunity to get a HUGE payday from NBC and eventually signed a whopping $25 million contract!
We guess it goes to show that loyalty sometimes goes to the highest bidder! You stay classy, Matt Lauer!
