Miley Cyrus‘ mom speaks out.
As we reported, at the MTV VMAs, the Party In The U.S.A. singer performed her breakup song Slide Away after previously telling a fan Instagram account there’s “no f**kin way” she’d do it after initially receiving zero nominations. (Though she was later in contention for Song of the Summer and Power Anthem for her track Mother’s Daughter, it is unclear if this is what changed her mind.)

Backstage at the extravaganza, momma Tish Cyrus spoke to ET‘s Keltie Knight where she set the record straight.
Billy Ray Cyrus‘ wife explained:
“She didn’t change her mind, it was just a last minute thing… Something opened up and she came to sing and I’m so excited!”
During her emotional performance, the singer added the line, “You’re right, I’m grown now,” after singing the original lyric, “You’re right, we’re grown now.”
She also debuted a new tattoo — a lyric from The Pixies‘ song The Thing — on her left bicep, reading:
“My head was feeling scared, but my heart was feeling free”
Backstage, the former Hannah Montana actress was spotted with rumored flame, Kaitlynn Carter. Per an E! News eyewitness:
“Kaitlynn was swaying at the side of the stage as Miley rehearsed Slide Away. Afterward, the two walked backstage, hugging each other.”
Another onlooker said the two “looked very much like a couple” with Kaitlynn grabbing Miley’s butt.
Afterward, the supposed couple drove from Newark to New York City to party at nightclub Up and Down. 20 minutes later, Carter’s ex, Brody Jenner, and his rumored 22-year-old rebound, Josie Canseco, entered the same establishment!
As we wrote earlier this month, Liam Hemsworth officially filed for divorce from the 26-year-old, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Despite rumors of infidelity, the musician denied the reports, writing on IG:
“But the truth is, once Liam and I reconciled, I meant it, and I was committed. There are NO secrets to uncover here. I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP. I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will. BUT at this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind. I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time. You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking, foul mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar. I am proud to say, I am simply in a different place from where I was when I was younger.”
