Minnie Driver may be promoting her TV show Speechless, but she’s not staying quiet about the sexist treatment she experienced early in her career!

On Wednesday’s Watch What Happens Live!, the actress revealed she almost didn’t get her role in the Oscar-winning film Good Will Hunting because a producer thought wasn’t “hot enough!”
After Andy Cohen asked her what the rudest thing anyone has said to her in Hollywood, the 46-year-old dropped the bombshell:
“The producer of Good Will Hunting did not think I was hot enough to be in that film, and did not want me in the film.”
Disgusting, and totally inaccurate! But not entirely surprising, given the film industry’s history with women.
Thankfully, the film’s stars and writers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, along with director Gus Van Sant, made sure Driver got the job. She continued:
“They fought very hard for me to play that role, and I’m grateful to them until this day.”
Clearly, Driver was the right choice to play Damon’s love interest, as Cohen pointed out she was nominated for an Oscar for the role — to which Driver quipped:
“But not for being hot.”
While the actress admitted to holding onto that insult for a while, she was ultimately “together enough to know that hotness is a perception, not a point of view.” We like her thinking!
