Naya Rivera‘s marriage to Ryan Dorsey wasn’t as much of a “surprise” as you may think.
Yes, while it did seem like a quick turnaround when the former Glee star said “I do” to Dorsey just three months after her engagement to Big Sean ended — Naya says it was a long time coming.
As we told you earlier this week, the 29-year-old is literally an open book in her new memoir Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up as she talks about everything from her struggle with anorexia to the abortion she got back in 2010 on her day off from filming.

What many people don’t realize is that Naya and Ryan were a thing before she ever dated the rapper.
Speaking to People, the momma-of-one discussed her long history with the actor:
“To this day, I’ll be doing interviews and people will be, like, ‘Oh my God! Y’all were friends?’ I’m, like, ‘What are you talking about?'”
So here’s the timeline: In 2010, the Devious Maids starlet ended her relationship with Ryan in order to focus on her career. A few weeks after the breakup, Naya found out she was pregnant with Dorsey’s baby, but decided to terminate the pregnancy without telling him. It wasn’t until the 33-year-old reached out to Rivera with condolences about her split from Big Sean that the two reconnected.
And the rest is history.
Naya says it was a freeing experience to really put everything out on the table in her new book:
“It was good to tell our story and put the truth out there. We’ve been married now two years and have a gorgeous son [, Josey, 11 months,] and it feels good to let everyone know what really happened.”
