After being offered to join the ABC show for the past four seasons in a row, the boy bander was finally convinced to sign up by Joey Fatone — who was in Seasons 4 and 15!
Carter revealed:

“[Joey] talks about it all the time and I was really debating if I wanted to do it, and he said, ‘It’s a great experience, it keeps you in shape and it’ll teach you a lot of stuff. He said, ‘You’ll get what you put into it.’ And I’m a hard worker, so I think it’ll be fun.”

Another motivating factor for the singer was to see if he could do better than his younger brother Aaron Carter, who finished in fifth place with partner Karina Smirnoff during Season 9! The 35-year-old added:

“My brother was on it; he did great; and he’s a great little dancer and entertainer so I saw it through his eyes throughout that experience. And there’s a lot of competitiveness in me and I think there’s a little something inside of me that says, ‘Okay, I’m going to go there and represent the Carter name and do even better than what he did!'”

While the performer has been dancing with his bandmates for the past 20 years, he admits he never considered himself a “great dancer”!
The competition is already pretty fierce. Also competing for the Mirror Ball Trophy are triple crown jockey Victor Espinoza and Bindi Irwin — the daughter of the late Steve Irwin!
The full list of competing hopefuls for the upcoming season of DWTS will be announced on September 2, and the show returns to ABC on September 14!
