Rihanna Reportedly Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show In Support Of Colin Kaepernick

Rihanna Pink Adam Levine Super Bowl

Ah, to think what could have been!!
According to sources, it turns out that both Rihanna and Pink were offered the opportunity to headline next February’s Super Bowl halftime show — but neither one ended up finalizing the deal!

As you’ll remember, Maroon 5 ended up being tapped as the halftime performer after all — an OK choice, but one that came with some controversy.
Well, now a source has told ET that Rihanna was actually the FIRST choice for the halftime show… but she wasn’t necessarily feeling the NFL‘s power structure (below):

“Rihanna was the front-runner for next year’s super bowl halftime show. CBS and the NFL reached out to Rihanna first, who after thinking about the offer, decided to pass due to the NFL and the situation regarding players kneeling. The offer and exposure would have been great for Rihanna as she’s planning a new album and tour but she stuck to what’s right in her eyes.”

Wow! Good job RiRi — stand in support of Colin Kaepernick and other players symbolically protesting police brutality and injustice!!
Now, here’s where it gets a little more interesting, too: while other sources have also simultaneously noted Rihanna’s activism and support caused her to turn down the Super Bowl folks, it turns out Pink was involved in negotiations for a while, too!

The singer will perform the National Anthem before the game in February, and the NFL had at one point reached out her as well — while a second source suggests to ET that the Pink and Rihanna may have been approached together at some point.
Negotiations dragged out even after RiRi walked away, though, and Pink eventually decided to move on, as well. It’s unclear what/if any role Kaepernick and other kneeling players may have played in her decision, but one thing is for certain: Pink apparently didn’t care for the NFL’s halftime offer!
And so… we have Maroon 5. Which is… fine! They’ll be… OK.
But things could have been SO much better!!
At least we can look forward to the fact that maybe Cardi B will join them???
Here’s hoping…
