The world has lost a true fighter!
Boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter passed away at his home in Toronto on Sunday at 76 years old, after battling prostate cancer.
Carter spent nearly 20 years in jail after he was wrongfully convicted of murder in the 1960s, making him a prominent figure in the fight for racial inequalities. He was convicted twice for a triple homicide, despite the fact that no eyewitnesses identified him. In 1995, the case was overturned and he was free!
The boxer’s life was also made into a movie, The Hurricane, which gave Denzel Washington an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Carter.
Our thoughts are with everyone who had the opportunity to know him!
Rubin’s inspiration lives on!
