Ryan Reynolds Thinks Doing Deadpool Movies Makes Him A Terrible Parent!

Deadpool may be all fun and games once the finished product arrives, but the process is something Ryan Reynolds feels makes him a terrible father!

During his conversation with Andrew Garfield for Variety’s Actors on Actors on Monday, the Marvel star opened up about the reality of bringing the Merc with a Mouth to life — and how it “swallows” all his time.

After Andrew asked him “what the future holds” for the franchise, Ryan admitted:

“Honestly, my feeling is that the character works very well in two ways. One is scarcity and surprise. So it had been six years since the last one, and part of the reason is that it swallows my whole life. You can’t take your hand off the stick all the way through development, through post production, into marketing and promo.”

And that kind of “maximum effort” doesn’t exactly combine well with having multiple children to raise:

“I have four kids, and I don’t ever want to be … an absentee [dad] and I don’t ever want to miss them. I kind of die inside when I see their faces and they have a competition or they do a sports thing or something and I missed it.”

Awww, that’s actually super sad! Don’t get us wrong, we respect his commitment to the role, but it clearly takes a lot out of him!

Ryan shares daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, Betty, 5, and son Olin, 1, with wife Blake Lively. That’s a lot of family that need him. But hey, at least he got to include them all in Deadpool & Wolverine!

As for what’s next? He finished:

“I don’t know what the future of Deadpool will be, but I do know that [we] made the movie to have a beginning, middle, and end, and to be a complete experience instead of a commercial for another one.”
