Scott Wolf is getting real about family, healing, and what truly matters after a difficult chapter that played out far more publicly than he ever wanted.
The beloved Party of Five alum has been navigating a very messy and extremely public divorce from Kelley Wolf, and it hasn’t exactly been easy for anyone involved.
But in a moment that felt quietly meaningful amid all tha
t noise, Scott and Kelley reunited with their three children — sons Jackson, 16, and Miller, 13, and daughter Lucy, 11 — for a day together at Universal Studios in Los Angeles back on February 20.

The outing came as a surprise to many who had been following the couple’s contentious split, of course. But for Scott, it was about something deeper than appearances.
And now, in a new interview with People, the actor explained why that reunion mattered so much — especially after what he described as a very heavy emotional stretch. Wolf said:
“While I would never have wanted anything to have been made public, I guess it just felt like our family deserved to have things not just sit in some kind of awful dark place in terms of perception. While the work we’re all doing is really the only thing that really matters, it had been made public. While it’s impossible to go into any real detail about much of any of it, I love all of those four people and all of those four people love each other. And so that’s really what matters most.”
That sentiment feels especially poignant considering how long Scott has lived in the public eye. Fans first fell for him back in 1994 when he broke through as Bailey Salinger on Party of Five at just 26 years old. Decades later, he’s once again enjoying a professional resurgence thanks to his role as Dr. Richard Miller on Fox’s medical drama Doc. And yes, the show just got more good news — it was officially renewed for a third season on March 9.
Scott sounded genuinely grateful for the experience:
“It’s such an incredible group of people, so I’m super excited for everyone that the show gets to continue. Whether Richard is around for one or a hundred more episodes, it’s been a huge gift.”
But while the acting career is thriving, Scott says the definition of success in his life has never really changed. Long before he became a TV heartthrob, he set two goals for himself, and they still guide him today. The first one was about making sure he could always put his kids first:
“I knew that was going to be important to me, so one goal was trying to keep myself in a place where I could always make choices based on the things that I wanted to do, not because my kids needed braces or something. That’s a huge luxury.”
The second goal? Growth. Always getting better. He revealed:
“It’s like, ‘What’s going to pull me out of the house with my kids?’ It’s got to be something worthwhile. So, success is being part of a great team, being in service of telling a great story that might matter to people. I think some of the shift is that there are no real benchmarks anymore. Success isn’t measured anymore by anybody else’s perception of me or where I arrive or don’t arrive, or what medium I’m working in. It’s all, ‘Did I stretch myself and try and get a little better?’ That’s a success.”
Of course, if you ask his kids, their dad’s TV fame doesn’t exactly impress them much.

Scott recently showed Lucy a throwback video he posted on Instagram featuring clips from his ‘90s heyday. Her reaction? Brutally honest in the way only kids can be:
“I bet you think you’re so cool.”
Ha!
Scott couldn’t help but laugh about it, explaining that his children have very mixed feelings about his Hollywood career:
“It’s funny, you go through different periods in this business, and sometimes you go through a quieter period of time, and then at breakfast, they’re like, ‘You got to get a Marvel movie or something. What are you doing?’ And now that there’s more [with Doc], now they’re just annoyed by it. It’s like, ‘Well, what about the whole wanting me in a Marvel movie?'”
LOLz!
Still, he loves including them in the experience whenever possible. In fact, he’s planning to bring them back to the Doc set soon so they can see firsthand what their dad has been working on:
“I’m bringing my oldest back with me this next trip as we wind down season 2. They’ve all had a chance to be on set at various points here and there. They’ve all done the marker, the slate, which is the rite of passage for any visiting kid. But I love having the chance to have them come around, especially in an environment like this one where everyone’s just so great and so talented and kind. I talk about them non-stop, so everyone up there is just like, ‘Bring them already.'”
And honestly? In the middle of such a painful public chapter, hearing Scott talk about his kids with that much love feels like the most important part of the story.
Even when families go through incredibly complicated moments, the hope for healing — and those shared days together, like at Universal Studios lsat month for the Wolf clan — can still matter more than anything else.
There’s a lot to take in here, of course. Got any reactions on it, y’all? As always, you can drop ’em in the comments (below).
And in the meantime, we continue sending love and light to Scott, Kelley, and especially those adorable kids as they navigate through this difficult time in their lives.
