True for many of us.
Sophia Bush, host of this week├óΓé¼Γäós VH1├óΓé¼Γäós Do Something Awards, spoke softly and smartly recently about last year├óΓé¼Γäós Do Something winner in the Male TV Star category — the late Cory Monteith.
The actress said of the Glee star, who died of a drug overdose earlier this month:
“I don’t know how to phrase it because you don’t want to say you’re expecting that from anyone, but sadly I think there are some people who we watch as they sort of unravel, and if something like that were to happen, you’d be sad but not necessarily shocked. You’d just be so sad that they never got help…. It’s, I think, more emotional for the people who knew and loved him because he was working toward that. He had just gone to get help.”
Cory had battled drug addiction since his teen years, and had been completed another stay in rehab just months before his death.
The Do Something Awards honors both celebrities and non-celebrities who have committed to making change in their worlds.
Cory took home his winged sneaker last year for his work with Richard Branson’s Virgin Unite, helping homeless teens and participating in theater programs for underprivileged youth.
We appreciate Sophia’s reminding us not only of the change Cory helped bring to the world, but the change all of us have the potential to manifest.
