Awkward.
Amy Adams and Tom Hanks were snubbed by the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences when they weren’t nominated for this year’s Oscars on Tuesday — despite having pretty noteworthy performances in Arrival and Sully.

To make matters worse, the Academy appeared to pour salt on their wounds as they accidentally listed the two A-listers as nominees on their official website for 10+ minutes. Yikes!
While the live stream announced Loving‘s Ruth Negga as the fifth nominee in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, it appears someone from the Oscars’ IT department thought they heard Miz Adams’ name as the site read:
Talk about a face palm moment. The error occurred AGAIN, when Hanks’ name appeared as the sixth (?) nominee in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category (below).
Now, the Toy Story vet is probably fine not being nominated this year since he already has two Oscars under his belt — but Amy, she’s probably pretty pissed since she’s been nominated five times and has yet to win one!
ABC Digital has provided a statement to explain the snafu:
“This morning, in an attempt to release breaking news as announced, ABC Digital briefly posted inaccurate nomination information on the Oscar.com website. The nominees announced by the Academy on Twitter were accurate. ABC quickly identified and corrected the errors. We apologize to the Academy, press and fans for any confusion.”
We guess we can understand wanting to be quick, but feel free to take a minute! We don’t mind waiting — and we bet Amy and Tom wouldn’t mind either. LOLz!
