There is a LOT you can say about Tristan Thompson, but one thing that has never been in question is how much he loves his brother! After his mother Andrea died suddenly and unexpectedly in January 2023, the NBA star stepped up to take care of his little brother Amari.
As Perezcious readers no doubt know, Amari — who will turn 18 in July — was born with a very severe form of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, or LGS. That health battle has left him wheelchair-bound full-time. And not only that, but as Khloé Kardashian explained in a past episode of The Kardashians, Amari requires around-the-clock healthcare and medical support. So he has a LOT of daily needs, and he will still have those needs even after he turns 18 this summer.

When Andrea died, Tristan immediately stepped up. Last year, he applied to become his little brother’s guardian in her stead. At first, a judge ruled that the basketball star could do so on a temporary basis. Well, on Monday, that became permanent! Per TMZ, on Monday, a court officially signed off Tristan becoming his little brother’s full-time and permanent guardian!
In his original petition last year, Tristan pointed out that Amari’s dad Trevor hasn’t been active in Amari’s life. And with Tristan the closest family member to his little bro — and extremely financially stable with all his NBA cash after playing for so many years in the league — he asked the court to allow him to take the lead on guardianship.
Because of Amari’s care needs, a judge had to very carefully weigh what would be best for the teenager. Plus, per the news outlet, Amari is getting more than $100,000 in an inheritance from his late mother’s estate, too. Tristan pledged in his petition to protect that money and help use it for Amari’s care in addition to daily details.
Now, it sounds like all that went through! Good for Tristan for stepping up to the plate. We know how much he loves his brother!
