Police are investigating after an apparent double drowning on Saturday afternoon at the home of former MLB baseball star outfielder Carl Crawford.
According to multiple media reports, Crawford — who is now a record label exec after retiring from a long professional baseball career — was having a small get-together in his Houston-area home on Saturday. At some point, tragedy struck the event, and now two people (including a boy apparently under the age of 5 years old) are dead.

Apparently, Crawford’s north Houston home was the site of a small get-together for six guests in total, including a young boy “no more than 5 years old” and a woman who was caring for him for the day. It’s unclear at this point how that woman may have been related to the boy, though Fox News has reported her to be about 25 years old.
In any event, TMZ is reporting that Crawford was inside when, at one point, the boy wandered off and fell into the ex-MLB star’s swimming pool out behind the house. Other sources claim the child was swimming at the time, and didn’t accidentally fall in to the pool. Regardless, at some point, the boy began to struggle in the water. Panicked, the woman apparently rushed over and went in after him in an attempt to save the child. Neither one was able to exit the pool safely on their own, and they each succumbed to drowning.
Even Crawford himself apparently tried to revive them both as best he could on the spot, but he was unsuccessful. Paramedics arrived quickly and took over, but they weren’t able to resuscitate either the woman or the boy. Crawford and those left behind in the aftermath apparently were cooperative in remaining at the scene and answering police questions, according to KHOU 11.
BTW — Texas’ coronavirus pandemic orders allow gatherings of less than ten people at a time, so it appears this was within the realm of the law there. Still, what a sudden and horrible tragedy for everyone involved, and just an unimaginable loss to think of such a young child drowning like that. Ugh…

Crawford (pictured above, facing the camera) is now 38 years old, having enjoyed a long playing career as a professional baseball outfielder after being drafted out of a Houston-area high school in 1999. In his pro career, the outfielder spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers, and was in the Major Leagues from 2002 through his final year in LA in 2016.
We can’t even imagine what it must be like to be a family member, friend, or loved one of those involved in this tragic accident. Our hearts go out to those who are affected by this sad, sad incident.
R.I.P…
