Judge Dismisses Ashley Judd's Sexual Harassment Case Against Harvey Weinstein

Ashley Judd Harvey Weinstein

Mark it down as a rare victory for Harvey Weinstein
A federal judge just dismissed Ashley Judd‘s sexual harassment case against the disgraced movie producer, after ruling that Judd and Weinstein did not “have a relationship that fell within the law.”

As you’ll remember, the case had been winding through the courts after Judd claimed Weinstein shut her out of Lord of the Rings after she turned down one of his alleged sexual demands.
She claimed he further blacklisted her from other movie roles, too, and eventually sued him under the legal theory of “sexual harassment in a professional relationship.”
Just one problem: the federal judge overseeing the case didn’t see the actor/producer relationship as one that would be covered under the law at the time!
And even though laws changed in 2018 to cover such relationships — directly as a result of the alleged actions of men like Weinstein — the judge further ruled that Judd’s case here couldn’t be applied retroactively.
Judd is still suing Weinstein for defamation, and that case will continue, but in regards to sexual harassment here, this appears to be a dead end.
