Please don't do it, Katie! This move could mark the end of soap operas as we know it!
Back in April, we were sad to hear that All My Children will be gone forever in September, and One Life to Live will say goodbye in January.
Now, we've learned that Katie Couric MAY be signing a $20 million deal with ABC for a one-hour daytime talk show that would air in General Hospital's timeslot! Nooooooo!!!!!!!
If the deal goes through, Katie's show would start up in September. No word as to whether or not GH would be canceled or put into another time slot, but unfortunately we're NOT optimistic for the show if that happens.
Look, Katie…we understand you're looking for new opportunities now that you've parted ways with CBS Evening News, but soap operas are an extremely endangered species.
Think about it. If you spare GH, you could be a HERO to lots and lots of devoted fans! Enrique Iglesias will sing songs about you! LOLz.
Would U like to see a Katie Couric daytime talk show on ABC? Or would U prefer the continued existence of General Hospital?

Last month, we heard that 60 Minutes' Scott Pelley was the top candidate to take over Katie Couric's CBS Evening News anchor position after her exit.
It seemed very clear that the position was Pelley's, and sure enough, the official announcement came today that he'll take over Katie's position when she leaves the show.
Here's what he had to say about the new opportunity:
"The opportunity to lead the organization as managing editor of the evening news is something you aspire to, something you never believe you could actually achieve."
And here's what CBS News chairman/60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager had to say about it:
"There's a great tradition here and I think Scott's a terrific symbol of that tradition. [He's] as good a reporter as has ever worked at this network."
And here's what Katie Couric has said about Pelley:
"[Pelley] is a great reporter and a real gentleman, who cares deeply about the news. I know he'll put his own unique imprimatur on the broadcast and will do a great job carrying on the tradition of the CBS Evening News."
Such nice words from Katie to her successor.
Good luck, Scott! We'll def give you a watch!
What do U think about Scott Pelley as a replacement for Katie Couric? Will he be able to fill her shoes?

Good lord! Everyone's quitting!
Just days after Katie Couric announced that she would be leaving CBS Evening News, Meredith Viera has followed suit, and revealed yesterday at that she will be leaving her spot on The Today Show in June - three months before her contract with the show expires!
Meanwhile, Ann Curry will be filling her spot as co-host with Matt Lauer, who is ALSO rumored to be thinking about leaving next year, and Natalie Morales will be taking a spot as a newsreader.
Although no official announcement has been made, sources close to the anchor explain that Viera has been considering a switch for quite some time, but only came to the decision earlier in the week. Her motivation is said to be completely personal, as she's preparing her youngest daughter for college in the fall and wants to be more involved as her husband unfortunately battles multiple sclerosis.
Can't say we blame her! Family should always be a top priority!
As sad as we are to see her go, we think she's done a great job during her time on The Today Show, and we wish her nothing but the best in future endeavors!

Sarah! Not cool!
Are you STILL mad about her asking legitimate questions and you not answering them very well?? Shame on her for doing her job!
All sarcasm aside, Sarah Palin made some ridiculous comments about Katie Couric stepping down from her CBS job!
Katie in her leaving statement had said that she wanted to pursue an avenue with "multidimensional storytelling."
This is what the former governor had to say:
"Yeah, and I hear that she wants to now engage in more 'multidimensional storytelling' versus I guess just the 'straight on, read into the, that teleprompter screen storytelling.' More power to her. I wish her well in her 'multidimensional storytelling.'"
That's pretty uncalled for this late in the game, Sarah. Not to mention, pretty classy. Like, high school classy.
It's time to just let it go, statements like this do nothing to help your popularity if you do decide to actually run.
Why are we still wondering what she thinks, again? Is she planning on running? Is she doing anything?
If U know, let us know!

Here's hoping! We LOVED them together!
Katie Couric has finally made her decision to leave CBS Evening News public, which in return has prompted speculation regarding a possible syndicated show for the news anchor, and now, she's opening up about the possibility of her former Today Show castmate Matt Lauer joining her in the a new venture when his contract is up in 2012!
She explains:
"Matt and I have undeniable chemistry in the most platonic sense of the word. We are like an old, married couple. We finish each other's sentences. He is very committed to the Today show. But who knows? You never know what the future may bring. We may work together. It's hard to say right now. We have a fun repartee."
Wow!
We don't know about you, but she definitely is pretty optimistic about the possibility, don't you think?!
Our fingers are staying crossed!
What do U think?? Do U want to see Katie and Matt reunited??

No surprises here!
Yesterday, we heard that Katie Couric was expected to make an announcement regarding her decision to leave CBS Evening News this week, and sure enough, she did exactly that.
Here's what Katie had to say about her exit from program:
"I'm really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we've been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I've done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future."
"I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling."
We respect your decision, Katie, and we'll look forward to hearing more details about your next move soon!
Do U think Katie's making the right move? Or should she have stuck with CBS Evening News?

Seems like it's finally happening.
For a while now, it's been pretty clear that Katie Couric was planning on leaving CBS Evening News, and now she's expected to make an announcement about it this week!
As we mentioned before, Scott Pelley is by far the top candidate to replace her.
Still no concrete details about where Katie will be headed after she leaves CBS, but all will be revealed very soon!
