California's Still Counting Ballots - Battle Against 8 NOT Over?!

california.jpg

Of the in-person votes cast on election day, the Proposition FOR H8te 'won' by roughly 506,000 votes.

But, on Wednesday, county officials were just beginning to tally at least 1.6 million leftover provisional and mail-in ballots across California.

According to the LA Times, counties have until Dec. 2 to count the votes, according to the secretary of state's office.

Some officials reportedly said they have more uncounted ballots than normal because of a surge in voting.

We're holding out hope.

We know a ton of people who cast absentee ballots and they voted NO to H8te!!!!

There's Still Hope for Al Franken

alfranken.jpg

What a nail biter!

The senate race in Minnesota between Norm Coleman and Al Franken is far from over.

As of Wednesday, Coleman, the incumbent Republican senator led the Deomocrat challenger and former SNL player, Franken, by ONLY 477 votes!

And, according to Minnesota law, recounts are required in races with a winning margin of less than one-half of 1 percent, although a losing candidate may request that it not go forward.

Franken announced his support for a recount and said that his campaign was investigating alleged voting irregularities at some polling places in Minneapolis, "Let me be clear: Our goal is to ensure that every vote is properly counted."

He also went on to say that "a recount could change the outcome significantly."

However, Coleman urged Franken to waive his right to a recount, saying that the prospect of changing the result was remote and that the $86,000 'cost' of a recount would be costly to taxpayers.

It's 477 votes. 477!

That's a miniscule margin, Coleman!

If Minnesota really needs money to cover the cost we're sure a ton of people would be willing to donate to the cause of democracy!

Where should we send our checks?

Ellen Speaks Out

wenn20983432.jpg

With the passing of perhaps one of the most ridiculous propositions of the last 10 years, many celebs are speaking out.

And the recently-married Ellen DeGeneres is among those that are speaking out about this injustice.

In a statement released by DeGeneres says:

"Watching the returns on election night was an amazing experience. Barack Obama is our new president. Change is here. I, like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step towards equality. We were watching history.

This morning, when it was clear that Proposition 8 had passed in California, I can’t explain the feeling I had. I was saddened beyond belief. Here we just had a giant step towards equality and then on the very next day, we took a giant step away.

I believe one day a 'ban on gay marriage' will sound totally ridiculous. In the meantime, I will continue to speak out for equality for all of us."

You go, girl!

We couldn't agree with Ellen any more.

Something needs to change!

Kanye and Other Celebs React To Obama's Election

wenn5200633__opt1.jpg

With Barack Obama's win for President of the United States, many people are speaking out about his election, making Carrie Underwood very very mad.

Even Kanye West gave a shout out to his dearly departed mom, Dr. Donda, on his official blog.

He said online, "Hi Mom, Obama won!"

Short, sweet, and meaningful.

As for George Clooney, he spoke out as well and said, "I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory, and now it's time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces."

Even Elizabitch Hasselbeck said on The View, "I will jump in that line and support our president because that is what as an American I believe we should do."

Glad to see so much excitement going around.

Can't wait for Obama to officially take office!!!!!

Fighting Against Prop 8

samjackson__opt.jpg

In addition to the efforts of Angelenos…

The people in San Francisco are taking a stand against injustice!

The San Francisco City Attorney's office is planning to challenge the validity of Proposition H8TE to ban gay marriage.

A rep for the City Attorney's office says City Attorney Dennis Herrera will file the legal challenge in the California Supreme Court.

In addition, the first lesbian couple to get married in Los Angeles County, after the Supreme Court threw out the gay marriage ban, are also planning to bring a lawsuit against Prop 8.

Let's hope a lot of others plan to do the same.

Something needs to be done!

This is about EQUALITY!

This is a civil rights issue!!!!!!

New York City Is Hurting Bad

third-time__opt.jpg

Uh oh!

This might spoil his third term hopes!

On Wednesday, New York City's mayor, Michael Bloomberg, announced plans to save the city $1.5 billion this year and next.

It includes cutting 3,000 city jobs and rolling back a 'popular' 7 percent property tax cut AND suspending the annual $400 property tax rebate checks that homeowners in the city get.

The mayor said:

“There is no magic answer to our budget challenges. We didn’t ask for our financial system’s meltdown, and we didn’t create it, but we certainly have to deal with it, and we have to deal with it honestly and straightforwardly, in order to protect the people of New York City.”

We hope something will be done to help the 3,000 who are going to be laid off.

So sad.

The Election May Be Over, But….

palin.gif

More details are being released about Sarah Palin and her sexy ways!

Such as the fact that she once greeted some John McCain staff members by wearing nothing more than a towel.

Hawt!!!

According to Newsweek, "At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said."

Very classy, right?

Oh, and remember those reports that Sarah spent over $150,000 on clothes? Well, it seems she actually spent more!

Newsweek also reports that "Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family–clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill."

"Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books."

Actually, we better see ALL of her outfits being donated or auctioned for charity as reports had previously said.

Shady, Sarah. Shady!

Oh, and even better, it turns out Palin requested to speak after McCain's concession speech yesterday, but luckily campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

Such an attention whore.

The entire country is better off today.

Well, except for Alaska.

Selena Rebuffs Carrie!

duhhh.jpg

Despite claiming to be drama-free, Carrie Underwood's recent anti-politics comments have garnered the little country crooner some negative attention.

Sweet Selenita responded to Carrie's statement that celebrities should not make public political endorsements with some disapproval.

"A lot of people do look up to certain celebrities and will follow in their footsteps," Gomez says, but with wisdom beyond her years, cautioned, "I think you just have to be aware of what you're saying."

Although the little Disney star is not yet old enough to vote, she was active in encouraging the under-18 crowd to educate themselves. She helped launch UR Vote Counts, which conducted a faux election for teens, with voting booths set up in malls.

And high schoolers all over elected Obama for president as well.

Selena observed, "I'm glad that people are getting involved with the election. This election has been the biggest with celebrities."

Which means that Carrie must have "lost respect" for names such a Steven Spielberg and Brad Pitt.
