Ben Carson Wants Transgender People To Have Separate Bathrooms Because They 'Make Everybody Else Uncomfortable'
Ben Carson believes transgender people should use separate bathrooms. On Thursday, the presidential hopeful shared his opinion about whether or not these individuals should use restrooms of the genders with which they identify.
The 64-year-old explained that his solution would be to provide transgender people with their own facilities. As if that statement alone wasn't awful enough, the Republican candidate also revealed why he felt this way, saying:
"How about we have a transgender bathroom? It's not fair for them to make everybody else uncomfortable."
We don't see how isolating those who have struggled with their gender identify is a "solution."
Unfortunately, the former neurosurgeon wasn't done talking. He added:
"It's one of the things that I don't particularly like about the [LGBT] movement. I think everybody has equal rights, but I'm not sure that anybody should have extra rights – extra rights when it comes to redefining everything for everybody else and imposing your view on everybody else."
Naturally, the aspiring politician's controversial comments have come under fire. The Human Rights Campaign bashed his offensive remarks, saying:
"Ben Carson can't go a week without invoking reckless and irresponsible stereotypes about the LGBT community, and his suggestion that transgender people be required to use segregated bathrooms echoes an ugly past our country should never revisit."
We agree completely.
It's not right to ask an entire community of people to use different bathrooms. But what do U think, Perezcious readers?
