Strange, but very true!
In an effort to stop counterfeiters once and for all, the Bank of Canada has decided to stop the production of paper notes and begin production on high-tech currency made of polymers, a synthetic plastic material.
Starting in November, the first $100 polymer bills will go into circulation, followed by a $50 note in March and $20 note later in 2012. The $10 and $5 bills will come out by the end of 2013. The new features of the bills, besides the material, will include “raised ink in the numerals and the featured portrait, color-shifting images embedded in the large window, and a number hidden in the maple-leaf window.”
Damn! That’s … detailed. It also sounds really expensive! Like, more expensive than necessary.
What do U think?
