One State Bans Debarking Surgery

We are glad to hear that one state has banned debarking surgery.

This surgery devocalizes dogs and cats by removing their vocal cords. Clearly this is for the benefit of the owner rather than the animal, since it harms the health and welfare of the animal.

Massachusetts is the first state to ban this surgery, anyone in the state who cuts or removes an animal’s vocal chords for nonmedical reasons may be punished by fines and up to five years in prison.

This law is called Logan’s Law, after a dog that underwent the controversial surgery but was later abandoned. So sad.

We are happy to hear that people are taking action to ban this horrible surgery!
