A Thai woman was arrested by Kenyan officials at the Nairobi airport after attempting to check in for her flight with 20 kilogrammes of illegal ivory.
The woman was attempting to fly to Bangkok with 105 pieces of ivory jewelry and raw ivory.
Poaching in Kenya has been on the rise lately since the country has successfully repopulated several herds of elephants.
So unfortunate!
Two weeks ago, two other bangkok bound passengers were arrested for attempting to smuggle 92 kilos of illegal raw ivory at Nairobi airport.
Thailand is a known transit point for the ivory, which is then shipped to other countries like China who use it in medicine and ornaments.
Are ornaments really worth putting an already endangered species at even greater risk for extinction?
We’re glad these smugglers are getting caught, but by the time they are caught, the damage has already been done to poor, innocent elephants.
