As we previously mentioned, Nepal held an all elephant soccer match at an elephant festival to promote conservation of elephants and to bring in tourists.
What we didn’t know was the torture these poor animals must endure during “training” for these games.
A PETA-commissioned investigation of the elephant training in Nepal uncovered how the elephants are torn away from their mothers at a young age and physically and emotionally abused with cruel training techniques and bullhooks.
The animals are poked, prodded and beaten into submission with fire poker looking bullhooks and desensitized with loud noises, slapped with sticks and had flaming torches waved at them.
Those poor elephants.
It seems like the elephant festival was less about elephant conservation and more about exploiting these beautiful creatures to bring in tourist dollars.
