States Want An Online Animal Abuser Registry

An initiative that started in Suffolk County, New York has now moved to several other states.
The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty of Animals was the first in the country to actually set up such a registry, similar to what sex offenders have to do.
Convicted animal abusers must provide a photo and their current address for ten years and pay a $50 per year fee.
Other states (Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland and New York) are catching on to the idea.
People’s pets can be like children to them, and it’s nice to know if there’s a sex offender living in your neighborhood when you have kids, so wouldn’t it be equally good to know if there’s a heartless animal abuser living near you and your pets?
A Senator from Maryland said:

“I├óΓé¼Γäóm a pet owner, and I├óΓé¼Γäóve also met and talked with a lot of people and groups that support it.
People with pets should know who is living near them for the protection of their own animals. We want to prevent future victims.”

We think this is a great idea and hope other counties and states adopt the same system to help protect the animals.
