James Cameron offered both Gyllenhaal and Damon the lead of Jake Sully in Avatar, but both actors declined the role, reports say.

But it sounds like Jimmy had his heart set on Aussie-born Sam Worthington for the role of Jake, anyway.

“Honestly, did I go out and try to woo them? No,” James admitted.

“I had my heart set on Sam. Maybe they sensed my lack of 100% commitment from me. Maybe it was the subject matter. This was a big Star Wars-type movie. They├óΓé¼Γäóre both serious actors,” said James.
