Well, they did it. The actual film at the center of all this tragedy and controversy is finally getting released this year…

The first trailer for Rust dropped Wednesday morning. The Western is the story of a teenage boy on the run, and his outlaw grandfather helping him evade cruel captors. But of course, it will always be known more for its real life tragedy. as Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun — which mistakenly contained a live round, which was fired through director Joel Souza and into cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Hutchins died of her gunshot wound, and a firestorm followed — fingers were pointed, charges were filed, lawsuits were filed…

And through it all, the movie quietly got finished. While some may feel it’s in poor taste to release the film, given what happened, we’re also seeing Halyna Hutchins’ final work. Director of photography Bianca Cline took over for Halyna Hutchins, and we have to say, the completed flick looks gorgeous. Get your first look at the actual film Rust (below).
