Amanda Bynes is committed to getting healthy.
It’s been nearly three weeks since the embattled star was admitted to a mental health hospital after she was found naked in LA while experiencing a psychotic episode. Now, sources close to the actress are opening up about how she is doing and what her plans are for the future.
While speaking to TMZ on Sunday, insiders revealed the 37-year-old and her medical team have been taking her recovery in the hospital week by week. The sources insisted the She’s The Man alum has not been forced to stay in the hospital (after her initial 5150 hold expired) but has elected to remain under medical supervision since she doesn’t feel ready to leave just yet.

Even though she’s not ready to be discharged at this time, the What I Like About You lead is working with those around her to come up with a plan for her next steps to make sure she stays on track once she does feel comfortable leaving. Currently, the thought is she’ll enroll in an outpatient mental health treatment program, where she will meet with doctors and specialists to help her get on the right path. No release date has been set for the former child star, but the hope is she’ll be good enough to go sometime next week.
As Perezcious readers know, the Hairspray alum’s conservatorship ended in 2022 after nine years, so her parents Lynn and Rick Bynes will have no say in her medical decisions at this time. They are also reportedly not pursuing getting her placed under another conservatorship, so they must think she is handling this situation as best as possible.

Interestingly, according to TMZ‘s insiders, Lynn and Rick have NOT been by The Amanda Show star’s side through the hospital stay, despite rumors saying otherwise. Hmm… Are they not seeing eye-to-eye on her treatment? It’s hard to know why they aren’t showing up to be there for her in person, but the sources did say they are still supporting their daughter in any way they can. We’ve already heard one way they are supporting her is by trying to keep Amanda away from her former fiancé, Paul Michael, who they do not think has her best interest in mind.
This update comes weeks after Amanda was found naked and wandering the streets of California early in the morning last month. Per reports, she flagged down a vehicle herself and called 911 to report she was having a psychotic episode and needed help. She was then taken to the hospital and placed on a psychiatric hold. The fact she was able to get herself help in such a dire situation gives us a lot of hope for her recovery. We wish her nothing but the best as she continues on this health journey.
