Howard K. Stern pleaded not guilty to charges of illegally furnishing prescription drugs to Anna Nicole Smith today, Wednesday.
Following the arraignment in L.A. County Superior Court, Stern’s lawyer, Steve Sadow, explained his plans to seek a complete dismissal of the charges because “Howard is not a doctor, not a medical practitioner and the statute does not apply to him.”
That’s clever!
Physicians Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich also pleaded not guilty.
The main point of the case is the thousands of pills that the trio supplied to Smith, knowing that she’d had problems with drugs before. According to prosecutors, Stern and the doctors used fake names to fill prescriptions for the drugs that would eventually kill Smith.
Everyone is due back in court in June to establish a date for the preliminary hearing.
We hope that Stern doesn’t manage to weasel his way out of this one!
