Why is that a scary statistic? Because we thought antibiotics were supposed to help sick people!
Turns out these antibiotics aren’t being used to help sick animals either.
Instead, they are primarily used to plump up livestock faster and while killing bacteria susceptible to antibiotics, it leaves bacteria that is more resistant to fill the gap.
The big problem here is that all of those drugs being created by companies to fight infections are becoming useless since bacteria found in our food source is growing resistant to them. That means, we may be more susceptible to all sorts of super bacteria that’s resistant to all of our antibiotics!
Ugh. We need to start treating our meat with respect! Wise up, factory farming!
