Avril Lavigne Breaks Off Engagement With Mod Sun - But His Rep Says Split Is 'News To Him'??

At least we think it’s over for Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun. Because according to insiders, it sounds like she knows it but he may not??? This is a little weird, y’all, NGL!

According to TMZ, the 38-year-old pop-punk princess and her 35-year-old fiancé of nearly a full year are no longer a couple. Ugh. Super sad!

Per reporting from that outlet which first popped up on Tuesday afternoon, the Sk8er Boi singer “made the tough decision to call off their engagement” in recent weeks. According to insiders, the now-former couple had been trying to make things work in recent months. They were “on and off” for a while, but ultimately “it just wasn’t right.” At first, it seemed like they might just be putting a pause on walking down the aisle. But now, the whole relationship is off. As in, they aren’t a couple at all.

Womp womp.

Now, if you’re thinking what we’re thinking — was Tyga involved at all after he was spotted having dinner with Avril at Nobu in Malibu — the answer is apparently no. TMZ claims it is “unclear” what led to the split, but there was “no cheating on either side.” So that ought to clear up any infidelity rumors about Avril and Kylie Jenner‘s ex, at least.

BTW, People also cites a source confirming Avril’s split from Mod Sun. Their insider makes things sound remarkably similar to what TMZ‘s mole had to say about the couple struggling to connect for the last few months:

“Avril and Mod Sun have been on and off for the past two months, but are no longer together as a couple.”

And that’s all… Except maybe that’s NOT all?

In a fascinating follow-up footnote on this alleged engagement ender: Mod may not actually know about it??? When TMZ queried the God Save The Teen artist’s team about the breakup, a rep had this to say in response:

“They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour so if anything has changed that’s news to him.”

Uh WHAT?!

So, Mod Sun left to go on tour thinking he and his fiancée were A-OK, and immediately after he hit the road, Avril nixed everything and bounced? Is that what’s going on here?! Or is there something else afoot?? Because this report about one party moving into single life while the other thinks they’re still a regular ol’ couple is CRAY-CRAY!

Hell, Avril and her man were just spotted together at a pre-party for the Grammys earlier this month. So it’s clear they have been in close company recently. But evidently something went wrong this week.

And here’s one more footnote for those of you following this story as breathlessly as we are! Tyga is apparently not waiting on deck to scoop up the Canadian pop singer up now that she’s on her own. Another insider spoke to People about the Girlfriend singer hugging the rapper in the ‘Bu on Sunday night, making it very clear there is no romantic interest there:

“Avril and Tyga are genuinely friends and nothing more. There was absolutely no third party involved in the split.”

So there you have it. If you’re keeping score at home, Avril and Mod are (reportedly) no longer a couple, Avril and Tyga are (apparently) not going to get together, and everyone involved seems to be single AF — no matter what Mod Sun may or may not know at this point.
