Carrie Fisher Had Cocaine & Heroin In Her System -- See Billie Lourd's Brave Response To Toxicology Report

We didn’t think it was possible for the loss of Carrie Fisher to be any more tragic, but this news does hurt.
It seems the Star Wars heroine never slayed the demon of drug addiction; the latest toxicology report from the coroner reveals she had cocaine, opiates, methadone, and ethanol in her system at the time of her death.
The cocaine use was determined to take place “sometime approximately in the last 72 hours” of Carrie’s life.

The cause of death was ultimately revealed on Friday to be sleep apnea. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office noted both the drug use and Carrie’s atherosclerotic heart disease as being possible contributing factors but could not say to what extent the substance abuse had an effect.
Ultimately the manner of death was ruled “undetermined.”
We’re sure Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd was hit hardest by the news. She released a statement to People, saying:

“My mom battled drug addiction and mental illness her entire life. She ultimately died of it. She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases.
She talked about the shame that torments people and their families confronted by these diseases. I know my Mom, she’d want her death to encourage people to be open about their struggles. Seek help, fight for government funding for mental health programs. Shame and those social stigmas are the enemies of progress to solutions and ultimately a cure.
Love you Momby.”

Aww.
