An Ohio tabby cat is fighting for her life, all thanks to some disturbed asshole.
Katy P. was taken in by the Richland County Humane Society this week after someone inserted a lit firecracker into the animal’s rectum.
The feline made it through emergency surgery, according to the shelter’s Facebook post, but Phillips Animal Hospital officials are still unsure whether she will be “incontinent or unable to defecate.”

However, veterinarians are optimistic that Katy P., who was named by shelter workers in honor of Katy Perry‘s song Firework, will survive the situation.
The Humane Society staff shared in an update on Wednesday:
“Her rectal catheter was removed today and there was feces on it, which is a good sign. Her urine is also clear which is another good sign. Her prognosis is better today than it was yesterday. However, she is developing an infection in her tail and received an antibiotic injection and will be on oral meds as well. She will be monitored to see if her tail needs to be amputated.”
Animal hospital officials reiterated to Mansfield News Journal that the cat will be in the clear once she’s able to defecate.
As Katy P. heals, Richland County Humane Society staff is also working to identify who put the animal through life-threatening abuse. The shelter’s board of directors is offering $500 for any information that could lead to the arrest of Katy P’s abusers.
They currently have no leads.
