Man Met A Couple Guys On Dating App -- And Ended Up Dead In A Basement

Man Allegedly Beaten To Death By Men He Met On Dating App While His Sister Was Home Upstairs

A Chicago man was found dead by his older sister — allegedly after two men he met on Grindr assaulted him.

Last weekend, the Chicago Police Department responded to a grim scene after 63-year-old George N. Levin‘s sister discovered him bound by duct tape and electrical cords in their basement. According to police reports obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, the man’s 65-year-old sister said she last saw her brother around 7 p.m. on January 26. The pair had dinner. From there, he retired to the basement where he lived, and everything seemed fine.

Around 8:30 p.m. his sister heard a loud noise coming from downstairs, which prompted her to go check on him. Reports state she noticed the back door was open, and she saw a man she didn’t recognize. She asked him:

“Is my brother okay?”

To which he responded:

“Yes, I am with your brother. I will have him call you.”

That actually assuaged her concerns, and she went back upstairs. Two hours later, though, she hadn’t heard from him. She tried to call and text her brother, who wasn’t responding. She assumed he was probably “brushing her off”…  but decided to go check on him again anyway since she was getting worried. Sadly, when Levin’s sister went downstairs, she would discover a horror scene…

The door to the man’s bedroom was locked upon her arrival, but she was able to pry it open. When she looked inside, she found a “partially clothed and bruised Levin, whose hands were bound by duct tape, his ankles tied with a black power cord and a sock lodged in his mouth held closed by duct tape” per police. She also noticed his phone, car keys, and wallet were missing. Just awful.

Levin was “cold to the touch” and his sister pulled the duct tape off his mouth in an attempt to give him CPR, but it was no use. CBS News Chicago reported EMTs rushed Levin to Ascension Resurrection Hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival. Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported he died from injuries related to an assault.

During the investigation, police were able to track Levin’s cards and see there were attempted charges at a smoke shop and a gas station. There were also more than $4,000 worth of purchases made on his Amazon account. Surveillance footage was able to capture two men on camera when they attempted to use the deceased man’s cards.

Horrifyingly, one of these men was the stranger Levin’s sister ran into the night he was murdered. Prosecutors said on February 1 that she was able to pick the men out of a police lineup as well as the CCTV footage, which led to their arrests. They were identified as 21-year-old Geiderwuin Bello Morales and 29-year-old Jefferson Ubilla-Delgado. They were taken into custody and charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of robbery against a victim over 60 years old, per the CPD.

Levin is alleged to have met the two men on Grindr, and they were supposed to come over to have sex. We guess they were on the app for more nefarious reasons — finding single men to prey upon. The two defendants’ attorney argued in court that even though they were caught with the deceased’s possessions, there’s no way to know what went on behind closed doors in his home, per WGN-TV. They also alleged Levin gave the men his phone in exchange for sex acts.

Despite the defense’s argument, the judge isn’t letting these guys off that easy. Judge William Fahy denied a pretrial release and they remain in custody. Both Bello Morales and Ubilla-Delgado are due in court again next week. Fahy said during the men’s court appearance:

“I can’t overlook the horrifying nature of this crime. To call this a violent crime is an understatement.”

We sincerely hope George can get the justice he deserves. May he rest in peace. Stay safe out there on those apps, everyone!
