UPDATE 1:57 P.M. EST: Smith took to Instagram Wednesday to clarify that the EW pics merely show the Genie in “Human/ Disguise Form” and that his character will be “BLUE!” and “CGI most of the movie.” He wrote to a crushed fan:
You ain’t never had a genie like Will Smith! Whether that’s good or bad news is unclear.
Disney released the first look at its upcoming Aladdin remake on Wednesday, and it has made fans hesitant to embark on Guy Ritchie‘s whole new live-action magic carpet ride.

Sure, Mena Massoud makes a handsome street rat and Naomi Scott is a stunning Jasmine. But the many fans on Twitter who were apparently dreaming of the Fresh Prince to voice a CGI blue Genie were woefully disappointed.

Smith took to Instagram to assure fans “(and yes, I’m gonna be BLUE! 🙂 )” — BUT STILL!! How Sway, how??
While one Disney exec reportedly described Smith’s Genie as “part Fresh Prince, part Hitch,” Ritchie, the film’s director, explained to EW:
“I wanted a muscular 1970s dad. He was big enough to feel like a force — not so muscular that he looked like he was counting his calories, but formidable enough to look like you knew when he was in the room…I like the fact that our Genie has an ego and is a little bit vain and he cares about how he’s presented because he’s been doing this for a very long time.”
Big Willy said his Genie was “unique” to Robin Williams‘ and was infused with a “hip-hop flavor” that hasn’t really been seen in Disney films.
Do U think 2018 Genie leaves more to be wished for?
