El Lay BANS Plastic Bags!

LA Bag BAn
You feel that, environment??
That’s the feeling you get when a huge city just straight up BANS the use of plastic bags!
L.A. loves you!
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and an array of environmental groups pleaded with the City Council to vote with the environment in mind — and it worked. They voted 13 to 1 to phase out plastic bags over the next 12 months at an estimated 7,500 stores!
For the city, that means you should be stockpiling those cloth-reusable bags: there will be a four-month environmental review of the bag ban, and then an ordinance putting it into effect. Larger stores are then given six months to stop using plastic bags and smaller stores/markets will be put on a 12-month phase-out period.
Plus, you don’t want to have to pay for paper bags, do you? Because retailers would be required to charge 10 cents per bag starting one year after plastic bag ban starts.
In other words, you have about 2 years to build a nice little collection of world-conscious reusable bags before they make you pay!
Of course, we totally feel for those earning a living for their families in the plastic bag industry — this can’t be a very good sign.
Though, they do have some buffer to start looking for jobs if they think that they’re in danger!
We think this is fab for the world, and should follow in the footsteps of San Jose, San Francisco, Long Beach, L.A., and dozens of other municipalities!
