Even though Elizabeth Banks did an AH-Mazing job directing Pitch Perfect 2, it looks like the Barden Bellas will be needing a new team captain to helm the next sequel!
That’s because according to Variety, the 42-year-old will no longer be directing Pitch Perfect 3!

Sources say that though Banks isn’t leaving the franchise in favor of a specific project — her rapidly growing schedule is largely behind her decision for exiting.
But don’t worry — Banks isn’t completely walking away from the franchise. The actress confirmed she will stay on as a producer and reprise her role as acapella commentator Gail, sharing on Twitter:
Though I won’t be directing #PitchPerfect3, I’ll continue to oversee PP3 as Producer & return as ‘GAIL’. Prepare for a very #MerryPitchmas!

After successfully leading the film’s 2015 sequel to a $285 million worldwide gross, Lizzy picked up multiple directing gigs and is already attached to helm the Charlie’s Angels reboot as well as Universal‘s Red Queen.
With all those projects, plus her villainous role in the Power Rangers reboot on her plate, we’re not surprised Elizabeth is letting another filmmaker take over PP3!
