A whole lot of engagements! Well, five, to be exact this year! While we saw a few of these coming, a couple celebs managed to surprise us with their quickie proposals. Even better than the stories behind a “yes”?? The big pieces of jewelry which followed!

Sarah Hyland & Wells Adams
Is that a rock or what??
The Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring (above) Wells Adams proposed to Sarah Hyland with is somewhere between five to seven carats (!!!) and could have cost well over $100K!
Not only is the piece of jewelry stunning, but to see how he proposed back in July, it just proves he wanted to go all out for his leading lady!
The 35-year-old dropped down on one knee while the pair were vacationing, and thankfully there’s a beautiful video of how it went down:
Clearly Wells was raking in more than six figures from his stints on Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise! Even addressing the haters on a January episode of his podcast with Brandi Cyrus, Your Favorite Things, he confessed ahead of his proposal:
“I will pay for this ring, I promise you. It will come out of my bank account.”
Especially since his biggest “pet peeve” is when people assume “Sarah pays for everything.”

As we previously reported, while attending one of the jeweler’s events in 2018, she told ET how her then-boyfriend was well aware of which diamond she’d like to wear for their happily ever after! She dished:
“He knows what it is, so it’s fine.”
There was no way for him to go wrong with this Hyland-approved pick!
Jennifer Lawrence & Cooke Maroney
2019 also saw Jennifer Lawrence get engaged to art director Cooke Maroney before the two finally tied the knot in late October.
Not exactly the long, drawn-out engagement we usually see from celebs, J. Law and her man only waited eight months before making the deed legal. For those who missed it, the actress’ proposal was revealed back in February of this year, though little else was detailed.
Jennifer did end up debuting her sparkly rock during Paris Fashion Week at the Dior show, not long after she and her fiancé celebrated their big news with friends and family at a French restaurant in NYC.
Considering Cooke’s industry, it’s not surprising to see he picked a stunning diamond for his now-wife to flaunt!
Hilary Duff & Matthew Koma
Matthew Koma really nailed it with his engagement to Hilary Duff!
The musician proposed to the actress in May with a story for the books, one Hil was proud to share with fans and followers. During a visit to CBS‘ The Talk, Duff confessed how her baby daddy got on one knee:
“I came home from work on a random Tuesday, and he’s like ‘Let’s go for a walk. Let’s go check out this park. We were living in Williamsburg and I was like ‘I’m so tired.’ We just started [watching] Game of Thrones, and I just wanted to eat dinner in bed and watch Game of Thrones. And he’s like ‘No, no, let’s go on a walk.’
After changing into sweatpants, because duh, they were finally on her way for a walk that would change her life:
“So we go, we find this gorgeous park and he presents me with this book that he said he’s been working on for a while. He’s like ‘It’s our story’ and he had this amazing guy, Shane, do all of these illustrations. And he was like ‘We are going to forget things along the way so we need to constantly fill this out so our kids can know our story.’”
And at the very last page, Matthew had a ring hidden in a small compartment:
“It was so sweet. It was so sweet. He got down on one knee and he’s like ‘I forget everything I’m supposed to say but you’re my best friend.’ It was so sweet.”

A three-stone setting is perched on a simple gold band, and we must admit, it’s pretty hard to not stare at a diamond as big as hers!
Hilary, who just gave birth to their daughter Banks a few months prior to their engagement, is just as in love with her new piece of jewelry you’d expect. Along with the snap (above) she shared to IG, the 33-year-old wrote in the caption:
“Cheesy IM GETTING MARRIED As of one month ago post!”

Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez
It shouldn’t have surprised anyone when news hit about Alex Rodriguez proposing to Jennifer Lopez! They seemed they were destined for marriage ever since they started dating in March 2017.
What did take our breaths away about his proposal?? The insane rock he presented to his now-fiancée!
While details are light on the diamond, different experts estimate it could be about 11, 15, or even 20 carats. So, what kind of price tag would you expect?? Anywhere from $1 million to about $4.5 million!
Anything for his bride-to-be, right??
Almost just as amazing as the ring is how the former pro athlete dropped down on one knee!
Not long after, A-Rod went on Jimmy Fallon‘s talk show to discuss the actual deets:
“I planned it for about six months and it was on a beach in the Bahamas. I had the ring, but what was interesting is the three days prior to me going down on one knee and getting engaged was I rehearsed three days in a row.”
He continued:
“I wanted the sunset to be perfect.”
By the looks of it, everything seemed perfect!
J.Lo also gushed about her big news nearly two months later during a sit-down with Today. She told Savannah Guthrie:
“I always planned to get married again. I want to spend my life with somebody. I want to grow old with somebody. I think that’s the goal, right? To find a partner to kinda walk through this crazy thing with.”
As it turns out, Alex is just that:
“We just complement each other. He’s super supportive. He allows me to be who I am.”
Apparently, the feeling is mutual:
“I want him to shine in the greatest way possible and to be his best self. And we just help each other be better people in a way. And we love our families. We’re very similar as well. We grew up the same. We kinda both got in the public eye very young. We both had kinda our hard moments in the public eye, but at the same time we keep coming back. We both have that thing too. We both have a lot of respect and admiration for each other. And he helps me. He helps me where I’m weak and I help him where he’s weak and he makes me stronger and that’s what it is.”
So sweet! That’s a dream!
Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom
A Valentine’s Day to remember!
Orlando Bloom popped the question to Katy Perry this past February 14, but unlike many of the jewels we’ve seen (above), he went with a non-traditional option!
Featuring a massive ruby (or other pink gem) in the center of this cluster diamond arrangement, it quickly catches the eye! And we’re sure it caught hers when Orly asked her to say “yes”!
Months later, in June, Katy finally opened up their romantic evening which led to them becoming fiancé and fiancée! Telling Captial Breakfast with Roman Kemp all about it, she confessed:
“It was Valentine’s Day, and I had to work that day. I just remember meeting him at dinner at this place, this Italian restaurant because, when I get a pass, I just want to just like stuff my face with pasta. So, I get there and he’s clean-shaven, he’s not wearing tennis shoes. I’m like, ‘Ah shit, something is going down.'”
She later added after their Italian meal:
“And then I got on a helicopter, and then he asked me to marry him. And then we landed on this building, and went downstairs and my family and friends were there and like the most flowers… the most flowers you’ve ever seen. It’s like when Kanye [West] does that for Kim [Kardashian West], you’re like, ‘Oh my god!’ And I was like, ‘Oh my god!’ Anyway, it’s great, he’s great. I love him very much.”

A special shout-out goes to Emma Stone and fiancé Dave McCary!
The SNL director popped the question to the actress early on in December, using a huge pearl ring to cement their new relationship status!
Few details have come out about the engagement, but we’re all ears about her new jewel. Designed by Kataoka, it features a center pearl rather than a diamond, though there are still several surrounding the 8 mm gem. And the price?? A thrilling $4,780!
It’s a gorgeous piece, one we’re sure Stone will love forever!
