Uh-oh. There is some animal activists dramz going on in Canada!
The Ottawa Animal Rights Defence League has called out the Humane Society of Ottawa for serving meat at its annual fundraising dinner, the Fur Ball!
The Defence League has asked the Humane Society to consider an animal-free meal at its $300 per plate dinner, which was declined again this year.
The group protested outside of the Fur Ball last year when the Humane Society refused to consider their request, but there is no word whether they will do it again this year.
The Humane Society’s reply to the Defence League states that the Humane Society is an animal welfare organization, not an animal rights organization and that it sees no ethical conflict with the raising of animals for food, only with the way that they are treated prior to and during slaughter.
The dinner does offer a vegetarian dish, however, only about 5% of those in attendance opt out of eating meat.
This is a sensitive issue for any animal lover and/or meat eater, so we want to know what U think!
