Update, 3:57 p.m. ET — Here we go… The New York Times is now reporting that, contrary to published protocol, guards at the facility did NOT check on Epstein every 15-30 minutes, instead giving him lots more unmonitored time “leaving him to his own devices.”
Hmmm… Furthermore, Epstein’s cellmate was apparently transferred out of their shared cell some time in the days before his alleged suicide, so the billionaire was left all alone, without any monitoring whatsoever.

Jeffrey Epstein‘s death may well remain a mystery forever, because according to sources, the cell in which he allegedly committed suicide does NOT have any cameras inside. And there’s more: outer cameras elsewhere in the facility do not point inside the cell in any way that would allow investigators to see what happened, only giving them a sight of the cell’s outside door and nothing else. Hmmm…

Sources familiar with the Manhattan facility where Epstein died spoke to TMZ about the issue, and revealed there are cameras in the Special Housing Unit, where he was housed. The only thing is… the cameras capture the doors of each cell, to determine who walks in and out and when, but they do NOT point inside at all. In other words, there’s no real way to see what went on in the hours and minutes before Epstein’s apparent suicide.
One source told the outlet prison guards typically are told to pass by each cell in intervals ranging from every 15 to 30 minutes, too, depending on circumstances. So while they’ve got eyes on the prisoners throughout the day with regularity, it’s hit or miss as to when they’re going to walk by. And that still doesn’t help the fact cameras just weren’t inside the cell along with Epstein in that unit.
Point is: there’s a real shot the time and manner of his death in the Epstein case now may never be conclusively known.
Forget the cameras though, because the weirdest thing here is why Epstein was taken off suicide watch so soon in the first place. Sources speaking to the outlet all agree on one thing: how “baffling, disturbing, and suspicious” it is for medical professionals at the correctional center to suddenly clear someone as high-profile and notorious as Epstein after a recent previous suicide attempt.
As we’ve reported, Epstein was taken off suicide watch — and thus, taken away from 24/7 observation — at some point between July 27 and his death. Insiders don’t know why, though, and feel he should’ve been kept on watch for at least a bit more time for his own safety.
This is all a hell of a development for conspiracy theorists who are certain there’s something fishy going on. Social media has been aflame with accusations and suppositions ever since the news first came down on Saturday morning. We can’t even necessarily blame y’all for those conspiracies, either… because something feels off here. Maybe Epstein really did commit suicide! He certainly had the motivation to do it, looking at the potential prison sentence ahead of him. But what if he didn’t? It honestly wouldn’t even shock us at this point.
