Just your daily reminder that people are vile: a Florida woman threatened to burn a black police officer’s family after he arrested her for drunk driving.
According to the police report obtained by BuzzFeed News, Julie Edwards (above) went on a racist and violent tirade against Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy Brandon King once she was inside his cruiser, telling him that her “KKK friends will burn your family” and that “n****** should’ve never been let out of slavery.”
Responding to a disturbance report last Friday, King arrived at a DeLand house to find the 53-year-old trying to leave the property in her vehicle. After smelling alcohol on her breath and noticing that she was slurring, King asked Edwards to take a breathalyzer test — which she refused.

Edwards was reportedly cuffed for refusing to take the test, then tried to walk away from the officer, and resisted his attempts to get her inside his police car.
When she was finally in the car and King was filing the paperwork for her arrest, Edwards apparently began her racist rant, saying that “my KKK people will [find you].” She can be heard saying in the released police footage (below):

“They know people like you. Hey, ain’t a damn thing wrong with burning a cross in your yard, is there? … You f**ked with the wrong white people.”

Edwards was later heard telling the officer that his “eyes will be poked out” and that the “KKK got your ass, boy,” adding:

“My KKK friends will burn your family. You should never be here in the first place. You ever been whipped on a whipping post?”

The report states that King took the woman’s threats to be serious, as he did not know what she was capable of.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released edited footage from the incident on Tuesday, writing in a tweet, “Before you go on a racist rant, just remember we have body cams”:

Edwards is facing charges of making threats against a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, DUI, and prior refusal to submit to testing. She bonded out of Volusia County Jail and is currently not in custody.
She was previously arrested twice in 2011 on charges including DUI, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and domestic battery.
