Allure‘s annual Nude issue is always fun times, and this year Laverne Cox is one of the gorgeous ladies posing in her birthday suit!

But it wasn’t an easy decision for the transgender Orange Is The New Black star.
In fact, she almost turned the request down twice!
“Going through life, you try to cover and hide, but it doesn’t really work. I said no initially, thought about it, and said no again. But I’m a black transgender woman. I felt this could be really powerful for the communities that I represent.”
Upon further reflection, she decided it would be a positive step for black and trans women:
“Black women are not often told that we’re beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we’re beautiful. Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about herself might be inspiring to some other folks. There’s beauty in the things we think are imperfect.
That sounds very clich├â┬⌐, but it’s true. I honestly just want to make myself happy most, and if other people like it, then that’s great. If they don’t, then I’m still happy.”
Though it was obviously a difficult decision, we’re glad she did it. She looks gorgeous, and other transgender women who look up to her may find it quite empowering!
