Awkward! Michael Douglas Mistaken For His Kids' Grandpa At Their University's Parents' Day!

Well, this is awkward…

Michael Douglas is an older dad — and unfortunately no one will let him forget it! The Basic Instinct star is 79 years old these days, and his son Dylan and daughter Carys are 23 and 21 respectively. While Michael may be Hollywood royalty, his personal deets aren’t necessarily common knowledge — so unfortunately folks who meet him and his kids aren’t always in the know about their relationship!

In an interview with The Telegraph on Saturday, the Fatal Attraction star recalled a particularly awkward incident while visiting one of his kids at Brown University for Parents’ Day. He revealed someone walked up to him and said:

“This is not grandfather’s day, this is parents’ day.”

Oof!

Who would be so rude?! Quickly, the Basic Instinct actor shot back:

“I say ‘I am a parent!’ That was a rough one.”

Despite being an older father to his kiddos, however, he has no regrets at having them so late in life with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

He admitted he wasn’t able to always “keep up” with the kids due to his age, but they’ve “been a joy” to raise:

“They’re just extraordinary beings. I probably certainly have to thank their mom and Catherine. They’ve just been a joy. We’ve had no issues per se. Had a lovely, lovely life together. Dylan is completely out of school now and Carys has got one more year of college. But they brought both Catherine and I just a tremendous amount of joy.”

Aww!
