President Obama cares a whole lot about animals, and not just his cutie pooches Bo and Sunny.
He loves animals across the world! That’s why he wants to do something about illegal wildlife trafficking networks all over the globe.
Things are getting pretty bad because the ivory trade isn’t just harming animals, it’s funding organized crime!
Several unstable African countries use poaching to fund their arms trafficking and drug dealing. Heck, some of these groups are even linked to terrorists!
All of this is totally not cool with President Obama, who said:
“Record high demand for wildlife products, coupled with inadequate preventative measures and weak institutions, has resulted in an explosion of illicit trade in wildlife in recent years. Today, because of the actions of poachers, species like elephants and rhinoceroses face the risk of significant decline or even extinction. But it does not have to be that way. We can take action to stop these illicit networks and ensure that our children have the chance to grow up in a world with and experience for themselves the wildlife we know and love.”
Well said, Mr. President, well said.
His administration has a three step plan to attack wildlife crimes head on.
Toughen domestic and global enforcement, reduce demand for illegally traded wildlife and strengthen international partnerships to fight poaching.
Sounds like a good plan to us!!
Though we were kinda hoping the plan would involve Obama hanging out of his Marine One chopper, shooting nets at poachers in Africa.
Oh well, we guess the whole “politics” thing will have to do. LOLz!
